About these terms

These terms apply to the Current Theory app (on Android and the web) and the currenttheory.co.nz website. Current Theory is run by Trade Theory Group Ltd, a New Zealand company ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using Current Theory, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy.

Who can use Current Theory

You must be 13 or older to use Current Theory. If you are under 18, check with a parent, guardian or your training provider that you are happy to use it.

A practice tool, not an authority

• Current Theory helps you practise electrical theory and prepare for exams. It does not guarantee that you will pass any assessment or exam.
• It is not an official exam, assessment or accreditation body, and it is not approved by the Electrical Workers Registration Board, any regulator or any training provider unless we say so.
• Questions and explanations are written to be accurate, but they can contain mistakes and can fall behind changes to standards and regulations. Always check the current legislation, standards and your training material.
• Nothing in Current Theory is instructions for doing electrical work. Never rely on it for work on a live installation. Follow the law, your supervisor and safe work practices.

If you think a question or answer is wrong, please tell us using the feedback option in the app or at support@currenttheory.co.nz.

Your account

• Give accurate details when you sign up, and keep your password safe. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
• An account is for one person. Do not share it or use someone else’s.
• You can delete your account at any time in the app (Profile, then Delete account). This permanently removes your progress.

Fair use

When you use Current Theory, you must not:

• copy, scrape, download in bulk, publish or share our questions, explanations or other content;
• try to get into other learners’ information, or into parts of the service you are not meant to access;
• interfere with the service, or use scripts or tools to access it other than through our app and website;
• cheat crew boards or progress, or use crews, names or feedback to harass, abuse or mislead anyone.

Crews and sharing with your training provider

Crew members can see your crew display name and weekly practice score. Choose a name you are happy for them to see. If you connect to your training provider with a code from your tutor, they can see a summary of your practice, as described in the app and our Privacy Policy. You can leave a crew or stop sharing at any time.

Our content

The questions, explanations, images, design and branding in Current Theory belong to Trade Theory Group Ltd or the people we license them from. You may use them for your own study. You may not copy, sell or redistribute them without our written permission.

If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them to improve Current Theory without owing you anything for them.

Changes to the service

Current Theory is free to use today. We are always improving it, so features and content may change, be added or be removed. If we introduce paid features in the future, we will tell you the price and terms before you pay anything. We try to keep the service running, but we cannot promise it will always be available or free of errors.

Suspending or closing accounts

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts other learners or the service at risk. Where it is reasonable, we will tell you why first and give you a chance to fix it.

Our responsibility to you

Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under New Zealand law, including the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and the Fair Trading Act 1986, where they apply.

As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for exam or assessment results, for decisions you make based on the content, or for any loss that comes from the service being unavailable or containing mistakes. Where we are responsible, our total liability is limited to the amount you have paid us in the 12 months before the claim (which is nothing while Current Theory is free), or NZ$100 if that is greater.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as Current Theory develops. We will change the date below, and if a change is significant, we will tell you in the app before it applies. If you keep using Current Theory after a change applies, the new terms apply to you. If you do not agree, you can delete your account.

New Zealand law

These terms are governed by New Zealand law, and New Zealand courts can hear any dispute about them.
